Similar in shape to an apple and taste more like a pear. They are a firm, crisp, juicy fruit with a yellowish-green russetted skin and a white flesh. Eat fresh, fruit salads and platters.
Varieties include:
Nijisseiki (20th Century), Hosui and Kosui.
Selection:
Choose firm, unblemished fruit. Depending on variety, the colour may be either green-yellow or partially to fully cinnamon/brown russetted. Avoid fruit that is soft or rubbery.
Storage:
Best stored in refrigerator crisper.
